Clergy assignment changes Sept 2026
Father Mark S. Ott was appointed pastor of Holy Martyrs Parish, Medina. This appointment is effective Aug. 1 and is in addition to his current assignment as professor of sacred Scripture for Saint Mary Seminary in Wickliffe. He will live at Holy Martyrs Parish, Medina.
Father Damian J. Ference was appointed administrator of St. Michael Parish, Cleveland, effective Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, while Father Mark R. Riley, pastor of St. Michael Parish, Cleveland, is on sabbatical. This new assignment is in addition to his assignment as vicar for evangelization and parochial vicar of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland. His residence remains unchanged.
Father Richard Bona was appointed rector of the Shrine of St. Elizabeth, Cleveland, effective June 1. This assignment is in addition to his assignment as pastor of St. Emeric Parish, Cleveland and as adjunct judicial vicar for the Diocese of Cleveland Tribunal. His residence remains unchanged.
Father Stephen M. Spisak was granted early retirement/senior priest-retired status for health reasons, effective July 31.
Deacon Phillip P. Kraynik will conclude his diaconal assignment at St. Patrick Parish, Thompson and he was granted retirement status as a deacon of the Diocese of Cleveland, effective Oct. 30.
Canon James T. Hoogerwerf, ICRSS, with the permission of Canon Matthew Talarico, ICRSS, U.S. provincial superior of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, concluded his appointment as rector of the Shrine of St. Elizabeth, Cleveland, and he was appointed rector of Immaculate Conception Oratory, Cleveland, effective June 1.
Father Almachius Mushumbusi Rwejuna, with the permission of Msgr. John Zuraw, vicar general of the Diocese of Youngstown, was granted faculties in the Diocese of Cleveland, effective Aug. 1 for a period of one year, while he continues his studies at Kent State University. He retains faculties with the Diocese of Youngstown.
Father Jozef A. Bozek was appointed administrator of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Cleveland, effective July 1. This new assignment is in addition to his assignment as pastor of St. Barbara Parish, Cleveland. His residence remains unchanged.
Father John C. Chlebo was appointed administrator of St. Wendelin Parish, Cleveland and administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Cleveland, effective July 6. This new assignment is in addition to his assignments as pastor of St. Christopher Parish, Rocky River and as delegate for senior priests for the Diocese of Cleveland. His residence remains unchanged.
Father Richard J. Samide concluded his assignment as administrator of St. Angela Merici Parish, Fairview Park, and he was appointed pastor of St. Angela Merici Parish, Fairview Park, effective July 15.
Father Joseph G. Workman was appointed administrator of St. Anne Parish, Ritman, effective July 1. This new assignment is in addition to his assignment as pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Wadsworth and pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Doylestown. His residence remains unchanged.
Father Patrick R. Schultz concluded his assignment as administrator of St. Bartholomew Parish, Middleburg Heights, and he was appointed pastor of St. Bartholomew Parish, Middleburg Heights, effective July 15.
Father Joseph P. Robinson concluded his appointment as administrator of SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Doylestown and as administrator of St. Anne Parish, Ritman, effective July 1. His residence and appointment as parochial vicar of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Wadsworth remain unchanged.
Father Stephen A. Flynn had his appointment as pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Gates Mills renewed for a six-year term, effective June 23.
Father Thomas A. Haren was appointed to the office of chaplain of the Department of Ohio Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary, effective June 17.
Father Christopher J. Zerucha was appointed to the office of chaplain of the Knights of Columbus University of Akron Council 18892, effective June 15.
Deacon Robert J. Stegmaier concluded his diaconal status of awaiting assignment, and he was appointed as deacon of Nativity of the Lord Jesus Parish, Akron, effective July 1.
Father William Fickel, SSS, with permission of the Very Rev. John Thomas Lane, SSS, provincial superior of the Province of St. Ann of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament (USA), was granted faculties in the Diocese of Cleveland, effective July 1 for a period of one year to minister at the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament community in Highland Heights.
Father Lowell G. Neuzil, with the recommendation of Deacon Sean K. Smith, chancellor of the Diocese of Knoxville, was granted faculties in the Diocese of Cleveland, effective Aug. 1 for a period of one year.
Deacon Leo T. Bistak, with the recommendation of Father Michael G. Dandurand, vicar for clergy of the Diocese of Toledo, was granted faculties in the Diocese of Cleveland, effective Aug. 29, for a period of one year.
